Increased Access to Poor-Inclusive, Climate-Resilient, Safely Managed Drinking Water and Sanitation Services;

USAID IUWASH Tangguh aims to increase access to safely managed drinking water for 1.5 million people and safely managed sanitation for 1 million people.

To achieve this outcome, USAID IUWASH Tangguh will provide extensive technical support to PDAMs, with a focus not only on improving internal operational performance (technical, financial, and institutional), but also on encouraging factors, including such as good water resources management (WRM), and promoting climate resilient safely managed water access.

USAID IUWASH Tangguh’s major activities in sanitation include promoting desludging services for on-site sanitation, promoting house connection for off-site sanitation, as well as institutional capacity building for the operator and local government and supporting national government in institutional governance, financing, and policy development in sanitation management.

At the regional level, USAID IUWASH Tangguh will support local governments to fulfill all the minimum requirements to implement Layanan Lumpur Tinja Terjadwal (LLTT). USAID IUWASH Tangguh will also support local governments to prepare readiness criteria for the programs of sanitation grants, OPOR (Optimalization, Maintenance, Operation, and Rehabilitation), and Special Allocation Fund for Sanitation.

At the national level, USAID IUWASH Tangguh partners with the relevant ministries to develop an enabling environment to achieve the safely managed drinking water and sanitation targets of the 2020-2024 National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN) and the Sustainable Development Goals in 2030.

The focuses of USAID IUWASH Tangguh’s assistance also cover the enabling factors, among others are gender inclusiveness, increased financing, and robust citizen engagement mechanisms.
