PLUS facilitated an online workshop to draft the Action Plan Matrix of the vulnerability assessment and action plans (KKMA-RA) for Eremerasa spring in Bantaeng district on May 5, 2020. The development of the action plan is a step of the KKMA-RA for Eremerasa spring supported by USAID IUWASH PLUS.
The KKMA-RA team of Eremerasa spring consisted of Bantaeng district’s BAPPEDA, PDAM, office of public works and spatial planning, environment office, office of village community and women empowerment and child protection, and PAMSIMAS coordinator all participated in this online workshop.
During the workshop, the participants also discussed the results of the spring vulnerability assessment carried out by USAID IUWASH PLUS in February 2020.
The study indicated that both the spring quantity and quality are deteriorating. The water debit has recently decreased 0.2 liter per second and the water is also contaminated with Coli and E. Coli bacteria coming from domestic wastewater. These conditions categorize the Eremerasa spring as nearly critical.
As a response to the study finding, the Head of Bantaeng District’s Bappeda, Mr. Mohammad Dimiti Nongpa, requested measures to address the decreasing spring’s quantity and quality to be conducted soon.
“With regards to the decreasing water debit of and contamination in Eremerasa spring, the action plan should be made and implemented immediately so that the spring is healed,” he said.
To ensure the action plan matrix is implemented optimally, supports from all stakeholders are significantly required.
After the workshop, the KKMA-RA team and USAID IUWASH PLUS will further discuss the action plan matrix in June 2020.
