Workshop on IPLT Training Syllabus Development and National Seminar on Domestic Wastewater Management

On October 8, 2018, USAID IUWASH PLUS and MPWH, in collaboration with USAID PRESTASI and STANTEC, conducted the 4th workshop on the development of IPLT technology selection syllabus and training preparation.

This workshop is the last part of the serial workshops on the development of Detailed Engineering Design (DED) technical guidelines and IPLT technology selection that have been held jointly by USAID IUWASH PLUS, USAID PRESTASI, STANTEC, and the PLP Development Directorate of MPWH since April 2018.

These guidelines and training are important to build capacity of the domestic wastewater operators in optimizing IPLT.

In this half-day workshop, around 15 participants from MPWH and prominent universities majoring in environmental engineering finalized 16 training syllabus on IPLT technology selection and prepare for the training, including who will conduct the training.

Following the workshop, USAID IUWASH PLUS in collaboration with USAID PRESTASI and MPWH conducted a national seminar in Jakarta on October 9, 2018. This seminar aimed to share about IPLT capacity building activities carried out by USAID IUWASH PLUS, USAID PRESTASI, STANTEC, and MPWH, including the IPLT technology selection guidelines that had been developed in the previous serial workshops.

The seminar was began with speeches from by the Director of Environment Office of USAID/Indonesia and the Director of PLP Development of MPWH. In his speech in front of 73 other participants representing the MPWH, OPDs managing domestic wastewater and other relevant OPDs from USAID IUWASH PLUS supported regions, universities, firms, and donors, the Director of Environment Office of USAID/Indonesia, Matthew Burton, highly appreciated all stakeholders involved in these IPLT capacity building activities. “The achievements [in the IPLT capacity building activities] will contribute to achieve safely managed sanitation,” he said.

Similarly, the Director of PLP Development of MPWH, Dodi Krispratmadi hopes that the national seminar will help local governments to develop a comprehensive IPLT plan, motivates PDAMs to expand their business to domestic wastewater management, and assists the BUMDs that have managed domestic wastewater management to improve their services.

Following the opening ceremony, MPWH, USAID IUWASH PLUS, and STANTEC subsequently presented the process of the technical guidelines development on the IPLT’s DED and tools to assess PDAM readiness as the domestic wastewater management operator and discussed their content.

This seminar also allowed local governments to share their experiences in selecting IPLT technology. For instance, Deli Serdang Housing and Settlements Office presented its experience in selecting the IPLT technology through participatory DED selection.

As a follow up on these events, USAID IUWASH PLUS will develop the training modules and MPWH will conduct the training.
