On April 27-28, 2021, USAID IUWASH PLUS assisted Fecal Sludge Management Alliance and PD. PAL Jaya to conduct a workshop on domestic wastewater management. The workshop video will be used as a content for the 6th Fecal Sludge Management Conference.
Being held online and offline with strict health protocols, the two-day event garnered a total of 100 participants, which included Jambi Mayor, Mr. Syarif Fasha; the Director General of Human Settlements of the MPWH, Ms. Diana Kusumastuti; the Director of Housing and Settlements of the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Kementerian PPN/Bappenas), and Ms. Tri Dewi Virgiyanti, among others.
During this event, 18 resource persons shared experiences in advancing technologies, innovations, research and development in addressing the challenges of domestic wastewater management in six discussion panels. The resource persons consisted of Jambi Mayor, the Director of Sanitation of the MPWH, the Director of Housing and Settlement of Kementerian PPN/Bappenas, USAID IUWASH PLUS specialists and partnering districts/cities (Sidoarjo, Medan, Surakarta, Bekasi, Gresik).
In the end of the workshop, the Vice Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria, delivered his closing remarks through a previously recorded video. The Vice Governor hopes, “The experiences and information on domestic wastewater management…hopefully will to become lessons for other countries in managing the domestic wastewater.”
Fecal Sludge Management Conference is an international event held by Fecal Sludge Management every other year. This year, Indonesia—represented by PD PAL Jaya—receives the honor to host this world recognized conference on fecal sludge management (FSM). Yet, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the conference will be held online.
