Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a business approach where private companies consciously integrate social and environmental considerations into their operations and interactions, encompassing initiatives such as water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) that support broader social and environmental objectives.
These initiatives are essential for Indonesia to achieve its Sustainable Development Goal targets, ensuring universal access to water and sanitation.
USAID IUWASH Tangguh, in collaboration with Djarum Foundation, the District of Wonogiri, and local community organizations, is improving access to safe drinking water and sanitation for low-income families.
The IDR 100 million (US$ 6,600) CSR project will provide a total of 27 low-income families with private toilets and septic tanks and supply piped water connections to nine households in two villages, Kerjo Lor and Giripurwo in Ngadirojo sub-districts.
On November 22, 2023, Djarum Foundation and Wonogiri district government symbolically handed over the CSR projects to the local community groups.
Djarum Foundation’s representative, Mr. Wardhana, assured their long-term commitment to developing the region in partnership with the local government and communities. The Head of Ngadirojo sub-district, Mr. A. Krisnayana reiterated that community members can play an equally important role in safeguarding the new facilities, promoting safely managed drinking water and sanitation, and good hygiene practices.
This partnership illustrates USAID IUWASH Tangguh’s continued effort to leverage public budgets and private sector financing assistance to enhance the wellbeing of communities by addressing WASH and water resource management issues.
