USAID Supports Expansion of Safely Managed Drinking Water Access through the Launch of ZAMP

USAID Dukung Perluasan Akses Air Minum yang Dikelola dengan Aman melalui Peluncuran ZAMP

USAID’s flagship climate-resilient water and sanitation activity (IUWASH Tangguh) is strengthening access to safely managed drinking water. The program supports the Ministry of Public Works in piloting a prime drinking water zone (Zona Air Minum Prima/ZAMP) in Pematangsiantar (North Sumatra), advancing the Government of Indonesia’s goal of achieving its target of 45% access to safe drinking water by 2030.

On December 10, 2024, the ZAMP system in Meranti Permai Housing was officially launched by the Mayor of Pematangsiantar, Susanti Dewayani, alongside Deputy Mission Director of USAID Indonesia, Erin Nicholson, US Consul – Medan, Bernard Uadan, Head of Sub-Directorate of Technical Planning, Ministry of Public Works, Dades Prinande, and Water and Sanitation Coordinator, Bappenas, Nur Aisyah Nasution. This system provides round-the-clock access to high-quality water for 213 households.

ZAMP are specifically designed to provide ready-to-drink water that meets quality standards required by Ministry of Health. Mastalinda Damanik, a resident of Meranti Permai housing felt the benefits of ZAMP. “I feel practical using the drinking water facility. I no longer need to cook water, I can drink directly from the tap,” she expressed her gratitude.

Following the launch in Pematangsiantar, Magelang and Salatiga city will inaugurate ZAMP facilities in January 2025, benefitting around 500 additional households in the two cities.
