USAID Mission Director Observes the Use of the Hand Washing with Soap Stations in Rusunawa Marunda

USAID Mission Director, Mr. Ryan Washburn, visited Rusunawa Marunda in North Jakarta on July 16, 2020.

During his visit, Mr. Washburn observed the cooperation between USAID/Indonesia and the U.S INDOPACIFIC command in providing the Rusunawa residents with sophisticated hand washing with soap stations.

Mr. Washburn pointed out that the seemingly simple idea of washing hands can have the greatest impact on public health and help stem the transmission of COVID-19.

Rusunawa Marunda is among eight low-cost rented apartment complexes in DKI Jakarta receiving hand washing with soap stations from the cooperation of USAID/Indonesia and the U.S INDOPACIFIC Command.

This initiative is expected to motivate the community to adopt hand washing with soap as a hygiene behavior habit as the first line of defense against the COVID-19.

Besides DKI Jakarta, this partnership also supports the construction of hand washing with soap stations in eight other USAID IUWASH PLUS project locations. Those are namely Deli Serdang, Gresik, Bogor, Sidoarjo, Malang, Bogor, Surabaya, and Depok.

In total, the partnership will be responsible for 250 HWWS facilities in those locations.
