The Indonesian government encourages public water utilities to implement the integrated Water Safety Planning (WSP) approach that assesses and manages risks along the water supply chain, from source to tap.
USAID IUWASH Tangguh and the East Java Regional Chapter of the Indonesia Water Utility Professional Association (PERPAMSI DPD Jatim) organized a WSP training for the water utilities members of the association on December 12–14, 2023.
The training aimed at improving the technical and managerial skills of water utility workforce members in safeguarding the quality, quantity, availability of drinking water.
In the training, representatives from twenty-eight water utilities in the province learned how to develop the WSP document that adhere national to guidance,. National master trainers, who USAID has cultivated since the start of the activity through a training of trainer model, led the knowledge transfer on the development of the WSP document.
One of the trainees, Mr. Samsul Hadi, hoped all participants can apply the newly gained knowledge as soon as they return to their posts.
So what? This capacity building activity illustrates USAID’s support towards organizational development of water utilities to sustain water system resiliency and to ensure the water delivered to communities are safe according to national health standards.
