USAID IUWASH PLUS participated in the 2019 National Sanitation and Water Supply Conference (KSAN) held by Bappenas and Pokja PPAS at Kempinski Hotel on December 2, 2019. The 2019 KSAN consisted of conference and festival.
The Vice President, Ma’ruf Amin, opened this bi-annual conference. Also present in the event, the Minister of PPN/Head of Bappenas, Suharsono Monoarfa; a number of officials from the relevant ministries, representatives of 34 provinces and 269 districts/cities, AKKOPSI, AKSANSI, BPPSPAM Association, NGO, and universities.
In the conference, USAID IUWASH PLUS invited Surakarta Mayor, FX. Rudyatmo, to share Surakarta city government’s experiences in integrating wastewater and water supply with all participants. In addition to Surakarta Mayor, Dompu Regent and Tasikmalaya Mayor also presented their experiences and innovations in providing water and sanitation services for all during the talk show.
All these local governments’ measures contribute to the improved water and sanitation access in Indonesia. In his opening speech, the Minister of PPN/Head of Bappenas explained that the improved water access increased 0.5 percent and the improved sanitation access increased 1.88 percent every year from 2010 to 2018.
Besides delivering the keynote speech, the Minister of PPN/Head of Bappenas presented the AMPL awards to the city/district governments, community groups, and community leader who have made innovations in advancing the water and sanitation services.
Two USAID IUWASH PLUS’ partners, namely Surakarta city government and KPSPAMS Tirta Johar Mandiri from Deli Serdang won the AMPL awards. Surakarta city government won the awards for its database management of regular desludging service, and KPSPAMS Tirta Johar Mandiri won the award for the arisan scheme to pay for desludging service.
Not only did the project participate in the conference, USAID IUWASH PLUS also invited bloggers and vloggers to present in the 2019 KSAN’s festival to share their knowledge in safely managed sanitation with public. The bloggers and vloggers learned about the safely managed sanitation when participating in ‘Kumpul Blogger’ held by USAID IUWASH PLUS two weeks prior.
