USAID supports Indonesian water utilities in striving to mainstream gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) in their respective workforces, leading to socially inclusive water service delivery.
From June 24 to 29, USAID IUWASH Tangguh hosted a Training of Trainers on GESI-related topics for 21 staff of eight water utilities in Surabaya city. During the training, the participants learned about GESI in the workforce and water services as well as teaching methodologies and tools. The newfound knowledge and skills will help the trainers to increase their colleagues’ GESI perspectives and transform their workforces, which will eventually lead to inclusive water service delivery.
A participant from Makassar, Mr. Untung, highlighted that it is mandatory for water service providers to apply GESI in the workforce. “Internal capacity-building and significant changes should be promoted,” he said.
