USAID IUWASH PLUS conducted a training on gender responsive WASH promotion from July 16–17, 2019 in Masohi City, Central Maluku.
Present in the training were sanitarians and health promotion staff of Puskesmas Masohi, and the participatory monitoring and evaluation teams and staff from four USAID IUWASH PLUS assisted urban villages, namely Namaelo, Lesane, Namasina, and Ampera.
Having participated in this training, the sanitarians and health promotion staff of Puskesmas Masohi are confident in promoting WASH, particularly the safely-managed sanitation issues,
through gender responsive participatory assessment and triggering.
Puskesmas Masohi will also support the participatory assessment and triggering using the health operation fund (BOK). A total of IDR 5 Million will be dedicated to support these activities.
In addition, the urban village governments, sanitarians, and community based organization, with supports from USAID IUWASH PLUS, will conduct a survey to verify the beneficiaries of the individual and communal sanitation facilities that the city government had built using the 2018 special budget allocation. It is estimated that 445 households have connected to these facilities.
Five urban villages—namely Namasina, Namaelo, Lesane, Ampera, and Letwaru, plan to use the 2020 DAK (Special Budget Allocation) to support the participatory assessment and triggering activities and promotion of new house connections for the 2018 DAK and handwashing with soap.
“I hope similar activities and training can all be continued, and more policy makers are aware and concerned about WASH issues,” said Abdul Wahid, the Head of Ampera Urban Village
