Puskesmas Sepatan assisted by USAID IUWASH PLUS conducted a training on gender mainstreaming in the WASH sector for the participatory monitoring and evaluation (M&E) teams for Sarakan and Kayu Bongkok villages at Puskesmas Sepatan, Tangerang on April 2, 2019.
This training was conducted as part of the USAID IUWASH PLUS supports to the participatory M&E teams. Members of the M&E team consist of community representatives who have received the participatory monitoring and evaluation trainings from USAID IUWASH PLUS.
The gender mainstreaming training provided the participants with an opportunity not only to learn about the difference between sex and gender but also to discuss gender inequality issues in WASH sector, such as public perception that WASH is the woman’s domain.
The participants showed positive responses to this training. Minah, a member of the M&E team in Sarakan village, said “after this training, I will promote gender equality in WASH to the men in my area. I will come to Poskamling (neighborhood patrolling post) and explain to them that men are also responsible for WASH activities [improvement] at their own house”.
Around 16 people representing the participatory M&E teams in Sarakan and Kayu Bongkok villages and Puskesmas Sepatan participated in this training.
