USAID IUWASH PLUS commits to build a culture in water supply management that based on gender equality values in the community, mainly for the community that still has limited gender literacy. The efforts to build that culture was implemented together with government through strengthening the community based water supply development program that supported by State Government Budget Special Allocation Fund (APBN-DAK), Local Government Budget (APBD) and KOTAKU Program.
Therefore, USAID IUWASH PLUS partnered with the Magelang District Office of Public Works (DPU), Salatiga City Office of Housing and Settlement Areas (DPKP) and Surakarta City Office of Housing and Settlements (Dinas Perkim) to hold a training on the Operations and Maintenance, Institutional, Financial Administration and Gender for the administrators of the community-based groups (KSM) of the Agency for Improving the Implementation of Water Supply System (BPPSPAM). The training held in Magelang City from August 14 to 16, 2017 was attended by 48 administrators of 16 communal BPPSPAM KSMs from Salatiga City, Magelang District and Surakarta City, with the resource persons from Magelang District PDAM and Salatiga City PDAM. The objective of this training is to build community competency so that the community can independently manage and maintain the water supply management based on gender equality by considering technical, management, institution and social aspects.
The discussion session during the training identified that the women representation in the KSM is 12.5% and they occupied the position as a treasury or KSM secretary. To follow up this, USAID IUWASH PLUS will improve this condition by providing assistance that focuses on the cases faced by the KSM and promoting social values.
