The Mayor of Bogor Signs the Tangkil Spring KKMARA Document

Bogor Mayor, Mr. Bima Arya, signed the document of the spring vulnerability and action plan (KKMARA) for Tangkil spring during a discussion with USAID IUWASH PLUS, Perumda Tirta Pakuan, and other relevant local government working units held on January 13, 2021 in Bogor city hall.

This signing marked Mayor Bima Arya’s supports to the implementation of the KKMARA recommendations to increase Tangkil spring’s water debit.

The spring assessment conducted by KKMARA team of Bogor city and USAID IUWASH PLUS showed that the spring’s water debit has been decreasing from 170 Lps in 1974 to 112 Lps in 2020.

Such deterioration will threaten water service sustainability of Perumda Tirta Pakuan as the company relies on the spring to provide piped water service to around 20,000 customers.

To increase the water debit of Tangkil spring, which is administratively located in Bogor district, the KKMARA team recommends a set of activities, among others is to construct between 1,700 and 2,300 infiltration ponds within the next 2-3 years.

To achieve this target, USAID IUWASH PLUS also built capacity of the local government and community to implement the groundwater recharge through infiltration ponds, which also includes the construction of 15 infiltration ponds from July 2020 to January 2021.

In addition, PDAM Tirta Pakuan has allocated Rp200 million from its CSR budget to build 45 infiltration ponds in 2021. Yet, there is still a long way to build 1,700 to 2,300 ponds.

He hopes that the KKMARA will help Perumda Tirta Pakuan to increase its capacity to serve its customers. As a follow up, USAID IUWASH PLUS with supports the KKMARA team to develop timeline and identify priorities in infiltration ponds construction for the next 2-3 years.
