Suara Gresik Radio Learns WASH Issues in Three USAID IUWASH PLUS Partnering Areas in Gresik District

On May 4-5, 2021, the journalists from Suara Gresik 100.4 FM accompanied by the district communication and information office learned WASH issues in three USAID IUWASH PLUS partnering areas, namely Kroman, Sidokumpul, and Pulopancikan villages.

The activity was conducted through a training that brought the themes Valuing Water’ and ‘Sustainable Sanitation’, which the radio station and USAID IUWASH PLUS conducted.

Purposes of the two-day training was to improve Suara Gresik radio journalists’ understanding of WASH issues as well as to increase their skills in developing content and collecting footage for diverse media platforms, including social media.
During the training, the Suara Gresik radio journalists also practice collecting video footage on communities’ water and sanitation access.

“Thanks to USAID IUWASH PLUS for giving experiences and teaching new things to Suara Gresik radio… As such, they become more confident in doing interviews in field and studio,” said The Head of the Communication and Information Office of Gresik District, Mr. Budi Raharjo.

Suara Gresik Radio will publish the content that they obtained during the event on their social media and will use them to supplement radio talk shows.

This training is a part of capacity building provided by USAID IUWASH PLUS to Suara Gresik Radio—a radio station owned by the district government. Since July 2020, the radio has aired regular talk shows on WASH issues.
