South Sulawesi provincial government has strong commitment to expand safely managed sanitation access. In support of this goal, the provincial government collaborates with USAID IUWASH Tangguh and other stakeholders to formulate the 2025–2030 sanitation roadmap. The document will provide key stakeholders with strategies, directions, and targets to develop and implement the sanitation programs in the next five years.
On January 19, 2024, USAID IUWASH Tangguh handed over the sanitation roadmap to the provincial government. The Head of Provincial Health Office, Mr. Muhammad Ishaq Iskandar, underscores that the sanitation roadmap will actively contribute to shaping the Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJPD) for South Sulawesi from 2025 to 2045.
“This reflects a collective commitment from all parties to work together towards the shared goal of ensuring safely managed sanitation, particularly in achieving the targets of SDGs Goal 6,” he elaborated.
The roadmap mandates that the provincial government must achieve 15% access to safely managed sanitation by 2030. The strategies to achieve the target include building climate resilient facilities, strengthening local governments’ capacity in safely managed sanitation, increasing capacity of operators, developing, and reinforcing regulations, empowering communities, and intensifying marketing and promotion. The provincial government will draft a gubernatorial regulation to help strengthen the implementation of the roadmap.
