Pokja AMPL in Bantaeng and Bulukumba Districts Held Governance Index Workshop

Pokja AMPL (water supply and sanitation working groups) in Bantaeng district and Bulukumba district, with supports from USAID IUWASH PLUS, respectively held a workshop on governance index (Godex) on May 22, 2019 in Bantaeng and May 23, 2019 in Bulukumba.

During the workshop, the participants in each district discussed the progress of clean water and domestic wastewater services, including the operators’ performance and septage treatment plant operation.

They also discussed things needed in the domestic wastewater management, such as technical issues, management, budget, regulation, and institutions.

In addition, the participants gave score based on the Godex indicators, which include budget responsiveness, accountability, inclusiveness, professionalism, and regulatory framework based on the agreement with the relevant local government organizations and verified documents.

Based on the discussion, the Godex of Bantaeng district increased from 62 in 2018 to 70 in 2019. The increase partly due to the gender responsive budget for domestic wastewater management.

Similar to Bantaeng, the Godex of Bulukumba district also increased from 48 in 2018 to 51 in 2019. The increase occurs because Bulukumba district increases the water supply planning/budgeting in the RPJMD (medium term development plan) and the PDAM has had business plan.

The participants from Bantaeng and Bulukumba districts agreed action plans, among others are the district governments will prioritize WASH programs based on the Godex indicators which still need improvements, and Pokja AMPL will discuss WASH issues more in their regular meetings.

Around 15 to 18 members of Pokja AMPL in Bantaeng and Bulukumba districts participated in the respective workshop.
