USAID IUWASH PLUS conducted an online training on the construction of three septic tank models with ‘up flow filter system’.
This training was held to accommodate the request from the Head of Mekar Sentosa Urban Village, Azanul Akbar Lubis, who expects the masons to be able to build functional, safe, and sustainable septic tanks.
The Head of Mekar Sentosa Urban village and nine masons participated in this training. Those nine masons consisted of the master masons from Medan, Deli Serdang, and Tebing Tinggi, as well as the masons building a septic tank in a mosque in Mekar Sentosa Urban Village.
During the training, the masons learned the technical theory of the construction of up flow filter septic tanks made from fiberglass, fiberglass and plywood, and bricks using Skype and cellphone as tools. The masons also learned on the reason of having septic tank and the importance of regular safely managed desludging service.
“The explanation is easy to understand,” Wagimin, the training participant from Mekar Sentosa urban village shared his impression on the online training.
Further, the Head of Mekar Sentosa Urban Village hopes that USAID IUWASH PLUS could continue the project’s supports to the masons after the training.
To accommodate the request from the Head of Mekar Sentosa Urban Village, USAID IUWASH PLUS will provide the masons with technical advice when they face challenges in building the septic tank. This service will be delivered observing the COVID-19 social behavior restriction protocols, until no longer necessary.
