Malang district government officially cooperates with USAID IUWASH PLUS in improving water and sanitation access. The partnership agreement was signed by Malang Regent, HM Sanusi, and USAID IUWASH PLUS’ Chief of Party, William J. Parente at Pendopo Bupati Malang on October 14, 2019.
Through this partnership, Malang district will improve water, sanitation services andhygiene practice, especially among the community who belongs to low income and vulnerable groups.
Malang Regent, HM Sanusi, explained that USAID IUWASH PLUS supported programs are in line with the district government’s programs.
Sanusi expects that this partnership will help community adopt hygiene practices to protect the people from any diseases and water scarcity issues in several areas addressed. Thus, the people’s productivity is increased.
“Stunting is a priority for Malang district. Thank be to God, [the stunting rate] in Malang district decreased from 28 percent to 12 percent. I hope with this [water and sanitation program], Malang district is able to eliminate stunting to zero,” said Sanusi.
In his speech, USAID IUWASH PLUS’ Chief of Party, William J. Parente explained that USAID has provided several countries with technical assistance, especially at the national and regional level, including Malang district for water and sanitation.
