Public water utilities use a series of water treatment methods and steps to provide safe drinking water for their communities. To accomplish that, water utilities must need to comply with various regulations, and follow specific requirements to protect the quality of drinking water.
USAID IUWASH Tangguh collaborated with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) to strengthen the technical, operational, and managerial capabilities of water utilities (PDAM) to operate and maintain the quality, quantity, and continuity of their water supply services.
A total of sixteen out of 37 PDAMs, that the USAID activity works with took part in a training on water treatment plant operation and maintenance on December 3—6, 2023 in Pontianak city.
During the four-day classroom and field training, they learned theories of water treatment process and observe the water treatment methods in PDAM Tirta Khatulistiwa in Pontianak city.
Mr. Panji Latief—a participant from Tirta Asasta water utility in Depok city, said, “[through this training], I learn about various water treatment characteristics. I will apply the knowledge in my workplace and adjust it to our water treatment system.
To close the training, the Head of the Training Center of PDAM Tirta Khatulistiwa, Mr. Darma, said that all participants have the knowledge and ability to improve the operations and maintenance of their respective water treatment plants.
