USAID IUWASH PLUS supported the focus group discussion (FGD) on the roadmap of domestic wastewater management system for Medan city organized by the Bappeda of Medan city on June 15, 2020.
The FGD participants were members of the roadmap drafting team, such as the city public works office, the health office, the housing, settlement, and spatial planning office, PDAM Tirtanadi, KOTAKU program, and USAID IUWASH PLUS.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the final draft of the roadmap, which is essential to guide the city government to develop its regional medium term development plan for 2021-2025 and to prepare the city sanitation strategy.
The online discussion resulted to an important agreement on the local government organization to manage the domestic wastewater.
Based on the discussion, the city public works office is responsible to manage the domestic wastewater operator. This decision is made following existing regulations, such as the Mayor Regulation No 40/2017 and the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation No 12/2017.
The city public works office welcomed the agreement.
Acting Secretary of the Public Works Office of Medan city, Mardian Habibie Gultom, said “the development of the road map on the domestic wastewater management system leads to a bright spot and gives clarity on the agencies responsible for domestic wastewater management in Medan city.”
“Thanks to the formulation team for analyzing regulations and institutions,” he added.
