Discussing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene with Depok Mayor

Depok Mayor, Mohammad Idris, and multi-stakeholders in Depok city discussed water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) issues during NGOBRASH SAWALI (Discussing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene with the Mayor) in Depok city on April 23, 2019.

NGOBRASH SAWALI was held by Depok city government and USAID IUWASH PLUS. This activity is the last step of the first participatory monitoring and evaluation cycle held by the participatory monitoring and evaluation in Abadi Jaya and Depok urban villages in their respective areas since November 2018.

The members of the evaluation teams consist of cadres (community members) who have completed the participatory monitoring and evaluation.

At the beginning of the event, the Mayor watched Lenong (a traditional drama) entitled Opera Van performed by the participatory monitoring and evaluation teams. The drama told about the community’s WASH habits, the evaluation teams’ activities to improve WASH access, their progress, and plans.

“This event is marvelous. The cadres are impressive. I support their future plans,” said the Mayor.

Besides receiving appreciation from the Mayor, NGOBRASH SAWALI also resulted several key point, which include (1) PDAM Tirta Asasta of Depok city extends its 50% discount for new connections until May 2019; (2) the Mayor will support septic tank construction using the national and local government budget; (3) MUI/BAZNAS of Depok city will contribute Rp10million for each evaluation team to support their activities; (4) the Mayor and AKKOPSI will support the participatory monitoring and evaluation teams to participate in the sanitation summit in Banjarmasin; (5) the participatory monitoring and evaluation teams, with supports from the relevant local government offices and USAID IUWASH PLUS, plan to develop a CSR partnership with Bank Jabar to improve WASH access; and (6) the PDAM will invite the participatory monitoring and evaluation teams to promote the PDAM connections through lenong.

NGOBRASH SAWALI was attended by 150 people, including the Mayor of Depok city, the Head of Pancoran Mas Sub-District, the Head of Abadi Jaya Urban Village, the Head of Depok Urban Village, the representatives of PDAM, AKKOPSI, Bank Jabar, Housing and Settlement Office, Health Office, MUI/BAZNAS, community leaders, and cadres.

As of April 26, 2019, 27 multi-stakeholder meetings for WASH have been conducted in 27 USAID IUWASH PLUS’ district/city partners.
