USAID IUWASH Tangguh and Bollo.id conducted a Citizen Journalism Training in Manuju Village, South Sulawesi, on June 27-28, 2024. The event aimed to increase the adoption of behaviors and community participation in educating residents about #jagasumberair (protect water resources) through citizen media channels.
Thirteen young men and women from Manuju Village attended the training, which combined classroom session and field practice. They learned about climate resilience, water resource management in Manuju Village, reporting techniques, interview techniques and ethics, and photo and video journalism.
“You can introduce Manuju Village with its rich resources, culture, and the closeness of its people in managing water and natural resources,” said Agus Mawan, Editor of Bollo.id.
The training opened the door for community participation in water resource management, one way being by becoming citizen journalists. Participants’ writings will be published in Bollo.id’s “Warga Bercerita” or other media outlets that provide space for citizen journalists.
One of the training participants, Zulkaidah, said, “This training is very interesting because it allows us to develop our ideas.”
The participants agreed to form the Manuju Village Citizen Journalist Community and create a village website with the support of Pesantren Darussalam Manuju. “This is a great idea,” said Muhammad Edi, one of the participants. “Manuju Village doesn’t have a website yet, so this will be a great way to share good practices and news about the village with the outside world,” he added.
“I will contribute my voice about the culture and natural wealth of Manuju Village,” said Nur Alamsyah.
