Banjarmasin city government, AKKOPSI, and USAID IUWASH PLUS held the 19th City Sanitation Summit on September 24, 2019 in Banjarmasin city, South Kalimantan.
City Sanitation Summit is an annual conference for the regents/mayors held by AKKOPSI (Aliansi Kabupaten/Kota Peduli Sanitasi/Alliance for Districts/Cities Care about Sanitation) to discuss sanitation issues. The 19th City Sanitation Summit themed Strong Leadership is the Key to the Success of Sustainable Services towards Safely Managed Sanitation.
Present in the conference were the Minister of PPN/Head of Bappenas, the Director General of Regional Development of MOHA; the Economy and Investment Expert of the MPWH; the Director of Urban, Housing, and Settlement of Bappenas; USAID Deputy Director of Environmental Office; and the representatives from around 195 districts/cities (100 of which were regents/mayors and deputy regents/mayors).
In his key speech, the Minister of PPN/Head of Bappenas, Bambang Brodjonegoro highlighted the importance of water and sanitation development in the districts/cities.
“Water and sanitation are basic infrastructures because they are attached to individuals and related to life and health. It is the time for the regents/mayors to talk about the infrastructures that are attached to individuals,” said the Minister of PPN/Head of Bappenas.
“Water and sanitation should become the priorities in the regional development,” he added.
The conference also presented Tangerang Regent and Gresik Vice Regent to share experiences on sanitation development in their respective districts.
Tangerang district has successfully implemented community based sanitation programs, such as GEBRAK PAKUMIS Plus and Sanitren.
In addition, Go Ploong—an Android base application for desludging service in Gresik district was selected as the best application in IdenTIK 2019 for public sector category and will represent Indonesia in ASEAN.
During the conference, the Minister of PPN/Head of Bappenas also presented awards as the most ready districts/cities for desludging service to five districts/cities, namely Bekasi city, Surakarta city, Gresik district, Kulon Progo district, and Kendari city. In addition, DI.Yogyakarta province also received an award under regional category.
